Wish To Know How To Us GPS

Frankly, I am very interested in GPS but I still do not understand how to use it until today. I know GPS is very useful especially you are traveling to a country that you never been before. I read in many backpacker forums, they are using GPS on the trip and commented that it is very useful. I wish I know how to use GPS, so that I could backpack travel to foreign country without problem.
